I took the car into an Indy who had auto logic to turn off the DSC which they said they did but as soon as I drove off the lot, the light came back on.

No it's because of the m5 cluster in there.

If you properly code the m5 cluster you will not get the DSC light.

I too have the DSC light that comes up about 2-3 miles after I drive off.

Autologic does not always code properly.
I ran a diag recently, there was no fault at all.
I got my temperature gauge fixed with Autologic but after reading the cluster few months back there was some dodgy coding left over. I cleared the fault, did a sync again and they went away.

I need to reset my cluster with NCSExpert, I suspect that will fix this, never got around doing it yet. It takes 2 mn though.

    Hi BMWPlanetDude
Thank you so much for this, however I am getting stomp on one area, 3.1. When I put in the new VIN it says "For this algorithm use the function "Factory default" and then write FGSTNR". That button is greyed out like yours. What to do here?

Just to be clear, it will only fully work on 99+ cars. The led tach lights and oil temp wont work on a 97.

Any e38, e39 and e53 but it seems only TU engines with DME 7.x from 09/1998 are capable of sending the oil temperature over the CAN bus.

They don't even fully work on the 99-01 cars, so that doesn't really matter.

Or has someone found a documented way of making the lights work?

Good point...though it is possible based on a few here that have got them to work. the older cars aren't even possible because they have an older model DME.

I'd like more info from those who "have done it". The one post here doesn't make sense.
Write a 4.6 tune to your 4.4, then re write your old 4.4 tune? How does that work? Or did the guy leave the 4.6 tune? And if so, how does his car run?

Curious on how the car runs to.

I just found out that the pre-2002 540 and all 740s use a different leak detection than newer 540 and all x5. Ldp vs dmtl and flashing the 4.6 will trigger a check engine light because the dme code is looking for something that doesnt exist.

In starshys case, he was flashing a euro 540 and the ldp is a US thing for emissions.

Idk, still researching all this stuff out. Hopefully when weather gets warmer i can start putting it to use and answer these questions...

In that case you need to see a mileage correction specialist because you can not change the VIN without resetting the IKE to a virgin state, which involves installing a new chip and copying the info over.

They can work 100% on 09/1998 cars with DME7.2
So far nobody really explained the steps.
The DME needs to be modified to send the oil temp signal over the CAN bus. I have no idea how to do that.

Right, which means until someone does, I'm not convinced it can be done.

It just looks like he's doing the cluster test. At any rate, NO ONE that "has done it", has said how.
