I don't look at this thread much, but I wrote an entire DIY on how to do exactly this.

If you need help doing it, please PM and I can give you more information on it.

BTW, how's that cluster doing for you in your e38? I hope the pixels are holding up ok. Not getting any errors or anything, right? Let me know if you need any other help.

Just for anyone who stopped following this thread but worked with me years ago trying to get this done.. thanks to TerraPhantm, it has been done.
A few shots of the cluster warming up:

1.) being able to read german when reading the coding of the cluster is a major benefit and could help understand the 'offset' that is calcluated when reading the oil temp signal.. where ever that signal may be in the IKE coding
2.) the DME software needs to be modified to send the correct signal reading for the cluster to read accurate <- seems to be the taboo subject from what i've read here and other threads
3.) buying an M5 is easier.
Well there should also be a 4th option: getting the M5 DME.

Huge fail. First of all have you noted that you are replying to a 1yr old post, and that Terraphantm has sorted the issue and Manny is a happy camper?

Second: M5 DME is completely different and won't run an M62TU ever. I mean you could theoretically make it work but it would be a task of stupendous proportions, starting with a custom one-off wiring harness, then continuing into months of coding and tuning basically using the M5 DME as a custom one-off SEM system. And there's no need/point to that.

Yeah, as geargrinder posted, that's not a real option. If you want to go through the work of getting the M5 DME working with a 540i, you might as well just swap the engine too. Or just buy an M5. Getting that DME to work on a 540i would take a considerable amount of time and effort, especially for those of us who don't have the backing of a large multinational car manufacturer and a team of talented engineers.

But yeah, we've figured this out. All M62TUs can get the lights working without new hardware (besides the cluster itself)

    HI,

My name is Federico and I'm new in this forum. I'm writing from Argentina so my english is very poor. I'm sory.

I want to know if my instrument cluster of M5 can show me the lights red/orange and the oil temperature.

    My car is a 540i6 of 05/1997
I bought the car with this instrument cluster but doesn't work complete.
I have a BMWscanner, could be used to repair it?

what would be the steps to repair it?

    Thanks!!
