What Gas to use in a 2009 BMW 328xi ?

Most of you might know, that I just got CPO 2009 BMW 328xi.

I want to know what kind of gas I need to use in this beast?

I always get my gas at Costco for my old faithful Honda. Can I stick to Costco? If yes, which grade gasoline shall I use? I dont know the grade numbers, but there are only 2 grades at Costco.

    Thanks,

Look on the hing of the filler door flap. It'll tell you the minimum octane rating. It is 91 on my 2007 328xit. Its probably the same for yours.

Open the filler door and look at the label. It will give you the minimum octane requirements for fuel. Use a fuel with an octane equal to or greater than that on the filler door label.

Many suggest using top tier gas, and certainly it's a safe bet, but it isn't the only acceptable fuel. Most importantly, you want to use fuel fom a station that has a good level of "turnover", so that the risk of fuel contamination by moisture, etc. is minimized.

You can spend a lifetime reading articles that run "soup to nuts" on what brand, type and formulations to use. My suggestion is to follow the instructions in your owners manual.

I have used Costco gas with out a issue, I always just use premium (93 in my location) when ever I fill up. You can use mid-grade as well.

Use Shell 93 on the first few fill-ups. The added detergent should clean out some of the deposits on the injectors/intake valves.

We've run our cars on Costco for years. Including our E34 525i, my old 330xi, my son's 335i, my wife's Boxster and many Toyotas. Never had a fuel-related problem. Use the Premium. You car will run on regular, but not at full power or with best mileage.

I don't fill my current BMW from Costco: they don't carry diesel.

Use Premium, 91 or higher. I use Walmart 93 octane for my area. Cheapest gas around.

By mid grade do you mean 89? I always thought that was a no-no. 2008 328xi E93 here.

91 or higher should be what's required. verify with your manual, however, this is one area I wouldn't go cheap.

Look folks, it's a 328 N52 engine. It will RUN on regular, but get best mileage and power on premium. Premium is RECOMMENDED but not required.

The 335i N54/N55 is different and requires at least 89.

    On P.203 of the 2011 sedan/wagon manual:
    ---------------------------
    Super Premium Gasoline/AKI 91
    This gasoline is highly recommended.
However, you may also use gasoline with less
AKI. The minimum AKI Rating is:
    > 323i, 328i/xDrive: 87
    > 335i/xDrive: 89.
If you use gasoline with this minimum AKI Rating,
the engine may produce knocking sounds
when starting at high outside temperatures.
This has no effect on the engine life.

I mostly use 76 because it's near work. If not I swing by Shell or Chevron, and once in a while Costco (Costco is furthest from me). I use Premium no matter which gas station I go to always.

You should be safe using midgrade, as long as you are not getting pinging and knocking.

I've been using Chevron or Shell premium gas on my 2009 328i if out of town, Since I live close to a military base the gas is cheaper with the high grade and reliable too, if your gonna keep it for a while, I would suggest going the high grade, you paid a lot of money to buy the bimmer but that's what I think

I prefer chevron or texaco. Gas is gas. The difference is in the additives and detergents. I like the Chevron Techron additive. But since neither Chevron or Texaco (both use Techron) is in my area now, I stick to Mobile or Sunoco and buy Techron from my local autoparts store and use it every 2500 miles.

I also have my 335xi tuned and run a mix of 93 octane and e85 that gives me around 30% ethanol. Most gas is 10% ethanol, and this isn't an issue

I only use 91 octane from Sunoco.
