I "hear from others" to disconnect the negative battery cable for at least 30 minutes. I did reset mine, but I left the cable off for 2 hours. Just my $.02 cents worth.

Two months, maybe three. OR ten seconds with the proper equipment. And if you don't have that equipment, how do you know it needs a reset?

In my experience with my car -Whenever its off long enough to reset your clock. If i leave the cable off overnight because im working on it, it runs like crap for the next few miles until it readjusts.

Interesting. I've disconnected the battery several times, most recently overnight when replacing the slip ring in the steering column. I did not notice that the car ran any differently after the job was done.

I store my RV for a month at a time with the battery disconnected - never noticed any difference with that, either.

If, after resetting the adaptives back to the default settings, the car runs like crap, there is something wrong. It is a testament to the OBDii standards that the system can cover for some problems like that.

I will say that the time I changed all the chain rails, I had the battery disconnected for over a week, and things seemed to have been reset. It took me a long time to reprogram the NAV, MID, radio, a/c, seats, etc and set the coding for three drivers. We're talking hours to recode all that. I don't call that "free".... and it took the same equipment to do.

Disconnect both positive and negative cables from the battery, then touch positive and negative connectors for 30 seconds, that will do it.
