They are a very tall motor. In saying that, the 3.2 m3 6 is a big engine as well.
I would try to get a height measurement and see if it's possible but anything can be done with enough money.
Dry sump could be an option to keep the height down but if it fits, that will be one hell of a car. I must say the thought of doing it to mine crossed my mind once or twice

Yeah thanks mate I do agree with you it is a big engine. an M3 engine would be ideal but They are very expensive and cant be modded to easily. And if i could pull it off it might even be a first.

I wasnt familliar with the range of engine swaps available. but have done a bit of research on the 1JZ and 2JZ engine swaps and deffinently seem like the go. Has been proven worthy and Plenty of help available if needed,

So in Australia How would aproch such a task?

Where do you get the engine and manual gearbox?

do you buy a half cut import?

Thanks for the feedback so far

I love the idea, but I can't envisage it being easy.

A number of factors will govern if it works.

-Sump clearance to subframe. Is a rear-sump available and if it clears, will it give room to firewall? If these 2 criteria are not met, custom sump needed. Mitch?

-Steering arm clearance. Turbo is on opposite side, do that's a win, but being a ford engine, it will move around that engine bay like nothing else! You'd want at least 30-40mm static clearance to steering arm.

-radiator support. 4 litters will be loooong. U need clearance for a radiator, intercooler aircon (if you go the non-agricultural route) and fans. That will be fun!

-bonnet clearance. How the engine gets mounted to clear subframe, firewall and steering arm will govern the height it sits at... Good chance bonnet won't shut. I don't think my bonnet will shut on mine. Ford engine will be worse I'd think.

-shifter position. How will the shifter sit after all the a above has been considered?

Rest is standard issue fun and games. Rear end will need a lot of work. Standard ecu on xr6ts are very powerful, I'd keep that for sure.

It will handle like s bag of shit, BMW tucked their engines low and sideways for a reason. A big iron 6 will be like a lead tipped arrow. Same as any JZ conversion I guess.

Id love to see it done though, have thought it would be good.

If you can make it fit, it will be very fast!

    Cheers

No killjoy Beaujob, just the questions I would ask myself.

Killer combo if it could be done, you should do it!

The engines are not expensive, I've seen some come and go in various guises for cheap.

And I recon if anyone could do it, itd be you, I've seen how u think. It might be held together with zip ties and baling twine, but it could happen....

    Trololo

Geez it does sound like killjoy when I re-read it.

    Totally not what was intended.

But we are not here to fuck spiders, and the above criteria needs to be adressed.

AND, I do honestly want to see it done, it would be full-on!

    Looking for a BMW
Never been done as far as I'm aware, the barra is a giant of a motor and won't fit in many other cars without a lot of work, heck people struggle to fit them in cars that came out with the old 250CI crossflow motor.

    Interesting thread.

There's a guy who swapped in a built turbocharged Nissan TB48 engine in his E39 and used a Ford auto tranny. The car ran for a while still sorting out some issues before the head had to be taken apart and the block is currently getting new pistons.
