Hey guys, dont know if this thread is still active or not but im looking at picking up a 2001 e46 m3 6spped with 172k on it. Ive been trying to find out if i should be concerned about the miles or not. From what ive heard, sounds like the s54 doesnt have too many problems besides the vanos being replaced.
I love this thread I just bought a 02 with 120k and was second guessing the purchase because of miles but I don't regret it at all ! I love it and this thread is so reassuring!
I have a 2004 m3 SMG with 112k miles. Nothing wrong at all! No SMG problems or anything
Pulls and drives like no other! I love my m3!
Just bought a 04 with 110k runs like a champ has some play in the steering wheel which is probably the coupler I inspected everything else looks great feels like it has 40k :

118,000 on mine and no issues for years. Like it so much I wont consider a replacement until I get to at least 150,000, and I might just buy a newer year lower miles version of the same car. Nothing they make now is nearly as much fun to me
Thanks guys. I was feeling like I was getting up there when the M rolled 66k the other day.
How much does it cost to have them replaced. Sorry noob here.
I'm interested in seeing you guys include your tranny info too: SMG or manual? Wondering how the SMG tranny and components' reliability is compared to the traditional manual components and tranny.

136K and climbing, been my daily for ten months now since selling my 330i.
Last repair needed at 134K was the carrier bearing on the driveshaft, otherwise stayed on top of all valve adjustment intervals and regular maintenance, this car never disappoints me
There is Hope. Phil, Hope you get to 300k one day
Life is like a car wash and I'm on a bicycle.
Flipped 100000 going to work yesterday. Recent repair, constant pressure valve and belt
replace. Coming soon, valve adjust. Second owner. Bought from dealer certified pre owned at 18000 miles.
No smg issues. I have had two coils fail but otherwise most sollid car i have ever owned.
My M is my dd and makes going to work so much better
My '04 just rolled past 42K.

Hard to believe so many E46 M3s are now at 120k+ miles.. guess these cars are getting old! Mine is at 103k, SMG, and no issues..
