I would have it changed. I would also put more weight into the advice given by an indy shop over a dealer when it comes to an older car. The indy and his staff likely have much more experience working on older models with high mileage than a dealer does. Most dealers see newer models more frequently and do a lot of warranty work. You could almost imply from their advice that they're saying, "Oh, just drive it until it breaks and then we can install a new transmission for you."
Thanks for the quick reply. I'll have them do it asap

Engine is super quite and runs great. Same clutch for 130,000 miles and no slip or issues.
Not babied, driven like I stoke it until recently, where the open roads are not available as often. Penty of salt flat racing/drifting. Many many rear tires.
360,347 on one of my 99 Touring. Second owner by the way. Original motor but the tranny has been replaced at 315,00. Replaced the rear swaybar with an M5 that came from Terabass (Thanks).
These 300K+ owners should ping bmw corporate about making longevity commercials with their cars in it. I have only seen longevity commercials from boring car companies. like for toyota corollas and other boring-mobiles.
They can be along the similar line "We used to make really nice cars.. so buy one of our new ones." lol
272K 99 528i wagon. other than a randomly malfunctioning abs module, it drives like new.
97 Bmw 528i with 173,xxx. Rebuilt motor going on as we speak though. Previous owner never me of overheating issues he had that I wasn't aware of when I got the car.
2003 525iA with 108k. Oxford Green on sand beige leather. Currently needs diagnosing for a misfire and a stutter when cold, a new hood, headlight adjusters (may go Euro), and other little things.
165k 99 528is 5-speed..... 2 radiators, water pump, pulleys, Vanos, 2 Valve cover gaskets, clutch, power steering hoses, numerous suspension parts, headlight adjusters, alternator... The list keeps growing but I have a short memory just ask my wife! Check engine light on now about 02 sensor, but can't replace because I'm not superman in loosing the lower sensors. Forgot ABS module.
