    Replica wheels

Sometimes I'm happy that we have pretty strict rules in Germany when it comes to legalizing car accessories.
Something like this wouldn't happen in Germany with a street legal rim:

I agree with that, not to mention when you're up close a real one looks so much better. But I'm also a sucker for OE wheels. Say for the new M, but it still wears BBS.

Yes, I've had enough of replica's, they don't balance and cause nothing but problems. Rondell 58's for me now!

In light of this, I think guys should chime in on what wheel manufacturers make strong enough wheels for our cars. There are a ton of people who buy into the "ebay" rims and could pay the price.

I just don't think it would hurt to have some sort of list for the new guys, me included!

OEM Wheels by whomever manufactures them (Rondel, BBS, MiM, Borbet, etc) They are all strong. I've also had good luck with the Replica brand out of Italy -- they make OEM for various auto manufacturers. I know others will chime here.

Every rim which is street legal in Germany is safe. They have to pass a tough test before getting the approval.

Ok, thanks anyways! Been looking at German vehicle laws all day. I have found plenty on suspension, tires, and aero. Just not rims... yet!

Any special rims you have in mind? I'm sure i can find out for you if they are road legal here in Germany or not.
If they are made in Germany (BBS, RONAL, RH, RIAL, AZEV, ACT, BORBET to name a few) they are approved. OZ Racing products are ok as well.

Nothing specific really, been looking at all those. I also like the tsw rims, the valencia, carthage, and cadwell. But since they are low priced I'm assuming they might not be strong enough for our over weight sharks.

none of those are being offered for the German market so better be careful.

You don't need a list, just ask any wheel manfacturer your interested in if there wheels are TUV approved.

or DOT approved in the US.

Tüv is German, but are well known all over Europe as a safe standard.
Actually I believe the wheels need to meet an ISO standard.

All wheels should also have a load bearing certificate.
the Work wheels I have on my 850 is Tüv certified for 900kg each (times 4 is 3600kg, twise the weight if the e31).
this mean that the wheel can handle more weight, but this indicates that 900kg pr wheel is the max vehicle weight.

Thanks for all the input guys!
I feel slightly stupid for not thinking of just calling and asking what their weight rating is per wheel...

On TSW's website it lists the Valencia's load rating at 1925. I'm assuming this is in lbs. and per wheel? Meaning 4 of them would have a load rating of close to 8000lbs? Am I correct in my assumptions?

Pretty much the only wheels I'd want:

    BBS
    Ronal (Alpina)
    HRE
    Rondell

Hmmm.. How about the MasItaly 18's I bought from another forum member?

I'm have to burn through 2 sets of 16" rubber before putting tires on the 18s and throwing them on my car. Plus, I need to do a full suspension assessment (reinforcement plates) before the 18s go on too...

Meh, DOT isn't as strict as TUV. Some DOT wheels still wouldn't meet TUV specs. Given that, I tend to opt for a TUV only spec.
