    Dealer srevice report

Is there anyway to formally request a service report for a vehicle. I purchased this car from an independent and the dealer in my area is not very willing to part with the service history .unless I come in for some.

Have them do an oil service and then tell them you're interested to see what parts might need to be replaced. Then ask for a key read so you can see what was already done. They can print out everything that comes from that. Most dealer-done services come up on their computer when they stick your key in their little reader. Then they can just print that out.

If they don't want to give it to you for the privacy of the last owner, ask if they'll black out the name and address with sharpie and copy it for you. That's really the only reason why a dealer won't give past records to a new owner.
