A couple of thoughts:
Your idle is low in pic number two.
Rather than at 60 MPH but rather at 750 - 900 RPM
does the oil pressure light go out and what does the gauge read?
20W50 Valvoline VR1 non-synthetic is the oil you want to run.
I'm not so sure I'd change the pump, but you are almost there, so...
But, I for sure would make sure there is no sludge in the pan
and that the oil pump pickup is clean and free of any crud.
Again thank you Swatterssr for taking the time.
Now, how do I adjust my idle and what should it be adjusted to?
Does it matter that I already used a synthetic oil? (It was in the car for about 2 weeks only)
I will check the oil pump pickup. Below is a picture of the current state of the oil pan. What do you think?
One more thing, now that I have the pan out, would it be a good idea to change the pump or do these pumps are well made enough to last me for another 200k. The car currently has 160K.

Just and FYI, does not look like the water pump from the 1988 528e (e28) will fit the 1978 530i (e12). I will post some pics of both. Not sure if the Fan Cluck will fit I will check and let you guys know.
The how on the idle adjustment you'll have to search the firstfives.org archives.
No biggie on the oil, but dump the synthetic and stay with the real deal.
The pump should be good, but they do fail.
Replacing it is a call you'll have to make.
I'm guessing you didn't idle it at 750 - 900 and check the gauge and idiot light prior to pan removal.
That suggestion was a step in diagnosing the pump's performance.
No sure how to do that with it removed from the car.
Water pumps from M20s are not interchangeable with M30s.
The fan and clutch from an M20 is interchangeable with the E28 chassis M30.
Thank you one more time.
I ended up changing the oil pan gasket, that was a job and a half... I had to remove the sub-frame and motor mounts. This was my first time and I am paying next time it needs to be done.
Then I took your consideration and used 20W50 Valvoline VR1 Non synthetic she sounds beautiful and my oil pressure went up to about 8-10 bars when idling.
Next I moved up to Change my water pump and thermostat (Not an easy job to figure... : ()
To get to that last bolt on the passenger side was crazy aster trying to search online and thinking a lot, I could not find a way to get that one out...
The I realized I had to take out the Radiator, then the fan and the bell bulley and that is how to get them out. Hope some one can benefit from this cus I was not able to find anything on how to remove a 1978 BMW 530i water pump.
After a new pump and thermostat and of-course new fluids man... she runs nice!!!
I think that happened that was kind of odd, my battery die so I charged it but when I try to crank her up nothing happen, I tried again and nothing it was only when I hit the starter with a hammer that she started up. It happened again today in the AM I had to hit the starter in other for her to start.
She always started, WHY IS THIS HAPPENING NOW!!!
Did you go back with the E12 pump and fan and clutch,
or swap out to the E28 and later style spin on set up?

No I purchased a E12 Pump and a E28 Fan Clutch, that worked out fine.

Now I just started realizing a very distinct ticking sound that is coming out of the valve cover. I am not sure if this is just how these engines should sound. I will take a video and upload it...
My next move is replacing the power steering pump.
My front shock are leaking, I would like to replace them but the setup I would like is a bit lower in the front and higher in the back. I was thinking on getting lowering springs for the front and normal ones for the back and installing Bilstein Sport Shocks, since they are stiffer. Right now I am running 17X10 in the back and 17X8.5 in the front and they touch the fender lip. What do you recommend?
Great thank you, Any where I can find how to do the procedure and the tools I need...

Also today something happen were I to her up to 80mph on the highway and when I stopped at a stopped light the oil engine light came on and the car felt like it wanted to turn off, it happen two times but then I drove away and everything was fine. Any Idea. I was reading online that this may be that my bearings I hope not... : (
Also the she is really spending spending a lot of gas.
Looks like I am in need of a Cylinder Head Gasket replacement, I have some oil coming out all around the engine block... : (
What does this mean the car only has 107miles on it and it is already leaking oil that is landing on the exhaust and burning it. I Looked around on the internet and everyone that has done a cylinder head gasket replacement also does a head resurface and refinishing I am not sure what this is so I am not sure if I could do the job my self. I certainly don't want to pay $2500 for the job...
What would cause this to happen and what is the damage, I am driving the car to work everyday about 39k round trip should I not be driving it.
I paid $6500 for the car, over all the car is perfect and beautiful. Did I just paid to much for this car?
Thank you for any help you can provide

I don't think so. I replaced the oil pan gasket thinking that that it was were it was leaking from but after power cleaning the engine I saw where it was coming out of. See the pic below.
Is this bad? I got the car now 2 months, should I take it back to the dealer where I got it and fit it? Is this going to cost me an arm and a leg?
Any help will be nice.
I doubt it's a head gasket.
More than likely a seal or connecting part gasket.
Hey I have a 78 e24 which is based off the e12 platform and when it cold outside or the engine is just starting up its hesitant and runs rough like when u accelerate u have to like hit the gas pedal twice real quick to get it to accelerate but once it has warmed up it seems to run fine
I believe so its got 2 or 3 of them to my knowledge
I've an '80 528i that over heated and now runs poorly. Where do I want to start in repairs? Is the head likely cracked?? The engine wasn't in great condition initially. Do I want to rebuild this one or look at switching engines?

Will they accept a BMW V8 without much modification?
Any interior shots from any of you e12 guys???
Thanks. Yeah, the car had just been painted. If you look carefully you can see the windshield was set in temporary and the wipers not yet installed.
