I was wondering if this is a real m5. The car is for sale for 14k and the owner says in the add that this is the only e 34 m5 auto out there. (not only u.s./edited)
Didn't want to post the add but ill post it if requested.
I wonder what auto tranny does it have.

Clean looking car, but I have never heard of an Auto M5.
What!
Whiskey...tango...M-F foxtrot?!?!?
either its legit or someone went through a ton of trouble for that. Look at the cluster: oil temp, ///m badge, and it tell you that you are in drive.
must have been swaped to auto.? we dont even have m5 auto in turkey..Did they made for us.?
Yup, looks like the real deal. Interesting!
VIN check would confirm for sure.
"One-of-a-kind M5. This is the only known one in existence with an auto transmission. Two-owner California/Arizona car that has been meticulously and professionally maintained, and always garaged. I have owned since 1996. All records available. White on grey color combination. Upgrades include:- BMW euro 18 in. wheels on new rubber- Dinan springs with Koni adjustable shocks- Custom engine and transmission programming by Dinan- Dinan cam gear upgrade (~340hp)- Braded brake lines- Cross drilled rotors with ceramic pads- Upgraded stereo and alarm system. Car is in excellent condition in and out and is a great/fun daily driver. 154k easy miles, mostly freeway and never tracked. All body panels match. Clean title. Here is your chance to own a truly unique car"

14.000$
Just ask for the VIN. It must start with WBS to be a M. Also run a Car Fax it will tell you as well.

It was swapped.
I'd like to see WHAT it was swapped with though. Going to guess whoever had it done didn't spare a cent.
The question is why..

All the badassery of an E34 ///M with the convenience of an automatic.
What exactly is so confusing here? I can't even begin to describe how much nicer it would be to not have to operate a clutch pedal a zillion times (FWIW, M5 clutches are HEAVY) in traffic, and that's coming from a youngster.
you want a failbox for traffic punting...get a 540 auto
you want a real car to have fun get an M5...
an M5 auto is as much of an effront to everything that car is about...its a slap in the face to every auto enthusiast...I have as much respect for the person that swapped that pour M5 as I do for prius pricks
M5 clutch is heavy?....stop bein such a sissy

Automatics have their place in the world.
Why do you think the CTS-V comes with an automatic?
This is kind of odd to argue, all I'm saying is that there are people who will want an automatic over a manual, regardless of what car its attached to.
...and I don't think you realize how much effort my clutch requires compared to, say, a 540i/6. I thought the pedal was broken the first time I depressed the clutch on Pope's 540i/6. Wish I could find another E34 M5 owner so I can see if somethings up with mine or if they're all this way.
That would actually be pretty cool to drive. Guarantee its the automatic from the 535i.
My M5 clutch was worse than my dads late 70s ferraris clutches. I was told that the early cars 91 and 92 used a different clutch than those that came on the 93 cars. If the clutch has been replaced at any point in the cars life, the new clutch design was grandfathered in and used as a universal replacement. My cars clutch was heavy as hell because at 70k miles it was still on the original clutch.
