Got new tires for the style 44s on the E36.
Test
Not a lot of love here for the Auto, but WTF. Parts-car had a wood shifter plate but the wood and varnish had cracked so much it looked like junk. I stripped the varnish and wood to reveal the metal underneither and gave it a paint job using "Aluminum" engine paint which I've used on various dash trim pieces. I quite like it. The E36 really should have had an aluminum interior trim option.
Drove it 700KMs with 5 20 minute sessions at the ridge in 90 degree weather. Took it like a champ as usual.

Installed new bump stops and discovered that one of the new Bilstein shocks I installed about 7 months ago gave out. (No compression or rebound)
MBR '98 328I
- Installed new Suspension; struts, shocks and springs with reinforcement plates.
- Replaced broken Sway Bar mount. Fixed Radio & computer display. Replaced the Brake Pedal switch.
- Replaced the mechanical fan with an electric fan and a new Radiator.
- Installed electrical fan, radiator, overflow tank, thermostat & housing.
Rebuilt Vanos with Beisan kit, replaced both motor mounts, replaced fuel filter, replaced brake light switch.
I was shocked when I found out that both of my motor mounts were physically 2 pieces and no longer a whole.... I knew they were bad but I didn't realize how bad...

So this is what I took out:
uploadfromtaptalk1436127216626.jpg
I wanted some kind of a snorkel or velocity stack. ... velocity stacks are jolly expensive and still pretty shallow generally (not that a deep one would clear the radiator coming straight out without being cut up). Came across a double wall plastic cup with correct diameter and rounded top .. cut the bottom portion off
uploadfromtaptalk1436127317613.jpg not a perfect cut ... might fix it tomorrow.
Double sided tape on the outside of it and its s very tight fit.

It actually amplified the sound of the intake. I wish it was closer to the grille area but really with the side of the airbox, the fan shroud and the motor only being a 4 banger and so far back the warm air doesn't even come close to making it towards the intake pipe. Overall I'm pleased with esentially a free intake.
Bought a real buffer and waxed the hell out of it. Used black shoe polish to touch up all the black trim. Amazing what you can do with some elbow grease and help from a dad who knows what he's doing.
Right window got stuck on lowest point on the 328i. Motor couldn't lift it up. After removal of motor, I could barely lift the window up.
Whole scissor mechanism removes, window removed. Front guide (which is like the rubber/velvet-ish weatherstrip) removed and all cleaned and "lubricated".
Everything put back and window now functions as before. Zero money spent.

That picture makes me cringe a little if Im honest
Replaced the gasket on the oil filter housing. Actually, I think the leak was coming from the VANOS connection. The PO used the wrong size aluminum crush washers. I think he used whatever he found around his shop.
Replacing he drive belt was the biggest PITA in the whole project. It's nowhere as bad on my e34 with the M50. Way too tight on the e36 with the coolant hose and fan still installed.

Had to fix the AC. .. Weird problem reared its ugly head on the way home right as i picked up my 2.5 month old daughter from day care on a 95 degree day. AC would blow ice cold under acceleration, but then at speed would cut out half the time and when stopped it would cut out all the time.
Well .. it turns out that the plastic connector supplying power to the ac compressor broke in half (wire pin broke apart from the plastic connector), and when the engine moved ever so slightly under acceleration it would move the wire enough to make contact ... and then lose it at idle. At least it was a quick fix but man ... some of the problems it's starting to have now that its 20 years old are quite bizzare lol
Well, if all 20 year old problems are just connectors that break, I'll sign up for that!

Changed 4 year old plugs out for Bosch plat 4s, and swapped out stock coil packs for Bavauto performance ones. Car runs great now with no issues. Needed and ignition overhaul.
New wheels, tires, spacers, bolts, tie rod ends and alignment next!

Removed the M3 doorsills, cleaned all the gunk buidup that was under them and fitted the BMW Motorsport Int'l sills so the theme is once more complete.
