    They are in fact forged

Some people argue that they're of poor design but I've had good luck with them previously and a lot of guys over seas run them with very high numbers.

Thanks for the informaton. I am curintly turboing my e34 and the guy of the dyno asked me that question. I am going to change the original ecu for a stand alone KMS unit. Have you heard about this ecu installed on an m50 ?

I have heard of KMS but not specifically on an M50.

As for the rods, I would address your power requirements - what are you looking for? 450 - 500 hp, maybe even 550 - 600 might be "ok", but considering how affordable eagle rods are it might be a good thing to replace.

Are you using stock pistons? I'd need to know your intentions in full to give real advice.

I have a 034efi IIc Ecu for sale and some pauter rods for a M50 and pistons too. I was in the process of gathering parts for a similar project.
Let me know if your interested in any of these?

I am looking for about 400 bhp with stock internals exept of the head gasket and arp head studs and connecting rod bolts. The new head gasket I used is made of 6 stainless steal ringes (placed on each bore) and a seroundig gasket only for water and oil seal. It is a 2.7 mm gasket

You'll be fine with that power requirement on stock internals

If its a Getrag it will probably break sooner than later. If its a ZF it'll last. Find out what trans it has and you'll be in the know.

No some 2.5 (typically 1993 and later) e34s have getrag. The only ZF E34s in the US are '91/'92 cars which have the same transmission as the '95 M3

Bad lack again . It will cost me a fortune to import a gear box from US to Malta (EU).Do you think are there any ZF in England .I have bought the engine from there and still costs me about $600 for shipping !!!!!!!

I have a ZF gear box but of the m20 model . It hase the same flange of the m50 but the gear box is less tilted on the side ( m20 engines are less tilted in the engine bay). Do you think these are better than the gatreg of the m50 ?. I think this is a 1980-85 gear box but in good working order.

Go with the Getrag you have - replace it when/if you have an issue. Some cars blow up Getrags on stock engines, some make 400 hp on them. Its hit or miss. Worry about it later when/if.

Getrag 260s are pretty solid I have been running boost with mine for 2.5 years now with zero gearbox problems. Its the 250 they put in some of the newer cars that is complete shit.

The 260 was in the m20 e30s and e28s. I am not sure what else it was in it.

Is it the one that gets gear oil instead of ATF oil ?

I run Redline MTL in them, but it depends which year/production run. There is supposed to be a sticker on the side of the transmission that is supposed to tell you. I had a discussion with an ex-lead transmission engineer for new process gear and he was telling me the only reason they run ATF in the manual gear boxes is cost. If the factory and all the dealers buy in bulk the same fluid they can get it for cheap. The downside is that ATF isn't a very good lubricant so you can expect more wear. I have had great luck with redline MTL in both my e30s and my 2002.
