Sorry bud, but probably 99% of the cars on here have factory keyless entry. Your best bet is to look for a wiring diagram or go to a local shop to have it installed.

I have the exact same car, expect that mine have manual transmission.

I've bought a universal positive keyless entry kit. The remote have one button, and the receiver has four wires:
- +12VDC
- Ground/Negative
- Lock
- Unlock
(The receiver sends a positive pulse on the lock-wire when the car shall lock and a positive pulse on the unlock-wire when the car shall unlock)
Before I bought the kit I searched the Internet for installing instructions, and found information regarding pins to be connected for E36 with the ZKE IV and ZVM module. Optimistically I dismounted the glove box of my E39 only to find out it do not have ZKE IV module.

Here is a picture (ref: picture 1) of the ZKE IV module, the lock and unlock wire shall be connected to X1323:

Here is a picture (ref: picture 2) from behind the glovebox for my E39:

Question A: What is the “module” for the E39 called? As ZKE IV (shown in picture 1) and ZVM for E36
Question B: Do anyone know which pins I should connect the lock and unlock wires to in my E39? (as on connectors shown on picture 2)

Just use WDS (Bmw Wiring Diagram System) and you find it in a snap :)

Thanks Asrafil :)

By using the WDS (http://spaghetticoder.org/bmw/wds/e39old/) I found out that this car have the ZKE III General Module.

More information on the ZKE III can be found here (http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/BMW_docs/x5zkeIII.pdf).
Central Lock Button - supplies a ground circuit
to the GM when switched. The GM supplies
and monitors a reference voltage (5v)
that is “pulled” low when the switched ground
path is provided.

So basically I have to find out which pin the central lock button (located near the hand break) is connected to on the GM and then connect this pin to ground when I want to lock/unlock. I’m probably going to go for a solution as shown in the picture below

Have you tried to get the original BMW central locking/remote locking to work?

The keyless entry (remote locking) won't function if it is not programmed...or if there is an issue with the regular central locking system.

Make sure that every thing works when you manually lock the car using the key in the door lock cylinder. Walk around and check that every part of the central locking system is locked (doors, fuel filler door, trunk). If you can open the fuel filler door when the car has been locked with the key, then you need to fix that first, then reprogram your remote keys.

You may not even need your aftermarket (universal) system.

The information below applies to the e38 7 series & e39 5 series:

OP, on my e30 w/ central locks I put keyless entry.

I have no idea if it works like this on the e39 (I'd test but I'm at work), but in the e30 when you lock and unlock the trunk with the key, all door locks function. There were just like three wires there at the trunk lock cylinder. I had to tap into those, and basically tricked the car into thinking that the trunk was being unlocked when I pressed the remote button. It was a 15min job because the battery and everything you need is right there in the trunk.
